What is the price of a Thyroid Test In India? Know Everything

Anjali is a mid-aged working professional. She works professionally for around 10 hours a day. She also does household work and takes care of her kids. She is a very hardworking and dedicated employee. She is also a very caring and nurturing mother and wife. In between her professional and personal life, she barely gets time for herself. In the past month, she rapidly reduced her weight. Everyone, including herself, thought that she had lost so much weight because of the heavy workload. But someone suggested that she should take a thyroid test in India, just to be sure. To her surprise, she had a thyroid. Though she had heard of it, she did not know what exactly it was.

This is the case with a lot of people. You might have heard of thyroid but don’t know exactly what it is. In this blog, we’ll tell you in detail everything you need to know about the thyroid.

What Is the Thyroid?

The thyroid gland is butterfly-shaped in your neck. It is an essential gland to maintain hormonal balances in the body.  It is one of the endocrine glands. The thyroid gland is vital to controlling the rate of the activities in your body. One of the main functions of the hormones of the thyroid gland is to control metabolic activities. These include how fast or slow you burn calories and how fast or slow your heartbeats. The thyroid gland is responsible for your body’s metabolism.

When your thyroid gland secretes too much or too little hormones, it creates a hormonal imbalance in the body. This hormonal imbalance can lead to rapid loss or gain of weight, weak bones, sleeplessness or insomnia, or even conditions like goiter. This is called thyroid disease. To detect this, one has to take a thyroid test. The thyroid test in India is easily available.

2 Different Types of Thyroid Disease

There are mainly two kinds of thyroid disease- hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism.

  • Hypothyroidism

Hypothyroidism is caused when the thyroid gland underproduces the hormones secreted. The body’s energy production depends on the hormones secreted by the thyroid gland. Less secretion of the hormones results in low energy levels and weight gain.

  • Hyperthyroidism

Hyperthyroidism is caused when the thyroid gland overproduces the hormones secreted. The body’s energy production depends on the hormones secreted by the thyroid gland. More secretion of the hormones results in high energy levels and weight loss.

Types of Blood Tests for Thyroid in India

The thyroid tests include the following blood tests:

  • Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) – TSH is produced in the pituitary gland. It helps regulate the balance between the thyroid hormones in the bloodstream, which includes the T4 and T3 hormones. When these hormones are synthesised and secreted in proportion, the thyroid gland functions normally. TSH blood test is the first test that is done. High levels of TSH are associated with hypothyroidism, and low levels of TSH are associated with hyperthyroidism. If TSH is abnormal, then thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3) are done. The average level of TSH is 0.40-4.50 mIU/ml.
  • Thyroxine (T4) – T4 test is done to monitor treatments for thyroid diseases. High levels of T4 are associated with hyperthyroidism, and low levels of T4 are associated with hypothyroidism. The average level of T4 is 5.0-11.0 ug/dL.
  • Triiodothyronine (T3) – T3 test is done to diagnose or monitor treatments for thyroid diseases. . High levels of T3 are associated with hyperthyroidism, and low levels of T3 are associated with hypothyroidism. The average level of T3 is 100-200 ng/dL.

These mentioned thyroid tests in India are available everywhere.
