Stir about ½ teaspoon of salt in 4 ounces of warm water. Stir it till the salt dissolves. Gargle and swish through the mouth for several seconds and then spit it out. 2. Warm Tea with Raw Honey

There are warm beverages like tea that will help in reducing the discomfort that can occur as a result of tonsillitis. Raw honey added to tea is known to have strong antibacterial properties and helps in treating the infection that is caused due to tonsillitis. 3. Eating Cold Foods

Most of the time, the doctors advise you to eat foods that are cold such as sucking on popsicles, drinking chilled smoothies, and others. You can add 10 to 12 basil leaves in warm water and boil them for 10 minutes. Strain it and add the juice from one lemon to the solution. Add one teaspoon of honey to sweeten it and drink it at least three times a day for two to three days.

5. Cinnamon

All of us have cinnamon at our home, which will enable you to treat the tonsils at home. This is a natural home remedy for tonsils. Cinnamon is rich in antimicrobial properties and reduces the growth of bacteria and the other microorganisms in the tonsils, and helps in reducing the swelling, pain, and inflammation as well. Add 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder to a glass of hot water, and mix two teaspoons of honey in it. Sip it on slowly while it is warm, and do this two or three times a day for one week.

6. Turmeric

Turmeric is a natural remedy and one of the best-used spices in treating any of the health issues, right from cough, cold to healing wounds. Turmeric is known for its anti-inflammatory and antiseptic qualities that can fight tonsillitis and cure irritation symptoms. Take a cup of hot water with ½ teaspoon of turmeric and ½ teaspoon of salt mixed with it. Gargle this mixture every morning and evening. 7. Fenugreek

Fenugreek is popularly known as methi, has antibacterial properties, which makes it an excellent remedy for tonsillitis as it can fight against the bacteria that is responsible for tonsillitis. It gives you instant relief from pain and inflammation. All you need to do is, add two teaspoons of fenugreek seeds to two cups of water and allow it to simmer for 30 minutes. Strain it and let it cool. Then gargle with this water for at least 30 seconds and spit it out. Do this twice a day till you get comfortable.

8. Lemon

Just as similar to saltwater, lemon is also one of the best home remedies for swollen tonsils or tonsils pain. Lemons are a great source in treating sore throats as it breaks up the mucus and provide pain relief. Lemons are known to be a source of Vitamin C that helps in boosting the immune system. Mix one teaspoon of lemon juice into a glass of warm water and drink it twice a day to get quick relief.
