Top 6 Home Remedies To Get Rid Of Vaginal Yeast Infections

Vaginal yeast infections are fungal infections that cause irritation, itchiness of the vagina and vulva, and vaginal discharge. This is also known as vaginal candidiasis and can affect up to 4 out of every five women at some point in their life. While yeast infection is not considered a sexually transmitted infection, there is a higher chance of a yeast infection during the first regular sexual activity. Some evidence also points towards these infections being linked to oral-genital sex as well.

While over-the-counter medications and home remedies can effectively treat such yeast infections, if you are facing recurring vaginal pain, itching, or discharges, you may need to visit a specialist and require longer treatment.

Though a yeast infection is not chronic, it can be extremely irritating and unpleasant. Not only does it cause extreme discomfort, but it also makes it difficult for the person to perform day-to-day chores. The good news is that home remedies can provide a lot of relief during times of distress due to vaginal infections. Let’s look at some such home remedies below!

  1. Yoghurt
  2. Honey and Tea Tree Oil
  3. Aloe Vera Gel
  4. Apple Cider Vinegar
  5. Virgin Coconut Oil
  6. Homemade Vaginal Wash

1. Yoghurt

Yoghurt is a natural probiotic. The good bacteria in it help build immunity and regulate the pH balance to find the optimum level. In doing so, it stops the growth of yeast or bacteria in the vaginal area. During yeast infection, apply homemade yoghurt directly onto the required area. Or, you can dip a tampon in yoghurt and have it on for 20-30 minutes. Then, wash off the area with cool water. Do this 2-3 times a day.

2. Honey and Tea Tree Oil

The oil obtained from tea tree leaves contain anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and antifungal properties that are essential for soothing chafed, dry, or inflamed skin. Honey acts as a perfect combination to this by moisturizing the inflamed area. Keep in mind to dilute the tea tree oil before applying it to the area.

3. Aloe Vera Gel

Fresh aloe vera gel has incredible moisturizing properties that immediately relieve inflamed itchy skin. Because of the various anti-microbial properties, aloe vera gel also restricts the growth of bacteria or fungus that can cause further infections or allergies. For best results, apply a thin layer of fresh aloe vera gel on the affected area to experience relief along with a cool sensation.

4. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar brings with it antifungal and antibacterial properties that are essential for treating both internal and external inflammations. Being heavily bioactive, apple cider vinegar shields the vaginal area from infection-causing bacteria or fungus. To experience the benefits of apple cider vinegar during a yeast infection, drink a spoonful with a glass of lukewarm water or add half a cup into a bucket of lukewarm water and wash the vaginal area regularly.

5. Virgin Coconut Oil

The fatty oil obtained from fresh coconuts has multifaceted properties that are essential for treating yeast infections. Not only does coconut oil stop the growth of yeast or bacteria on the vaginal area, but it also soothes the irritated skin to provide instant relief.
